New Plumbing Code published
Standards Australia has announced that AS/NZS 3500:2018 Plumbing and drainage Parts 1 – 4 have been published following extensive work by industry, technical experts, regulators and consumers to address the needs of the community.
The AS/NZS 3500 series align with the new three year cycle of the National Construction Code (NCC). Publishing the standards at this time enables them to be primary reference documents in the NCC and serve as nationally applicable standards guiding the plumbing sector in each state and territory. The documents will direct how plumbers across Australia install taps, showers, bathtubs, hot water systems and drainage systems.
“The standards published today are examples of those that impact our lives every day, without even realising it. There will be millions of homes across the country with a hot water system they use daily, much like there will be millions of people using sinks and taps compliant with at least one of the standards published today,” says Standards Australia chief executive Dr Bronwyn Evans.
The plumbing standards published today are:
- AS/NZS 3500.1:2018, Plumbing and drainage Part 1: Water services
- AS/NZS 3500.2:2018, Plumbing and drainage Part 2: Sanitary plumbing and drainage
- AS/NZS 3500.3:2018, Plumbing and drainage Part 3: Stormwater drainage
- AS/NZS 3500.4:2018, Plumbing and drainage Part 4: Heated water services
“I thank the organisations and individuals who all contributed to these standards. With these publications we can be sure that we will continue to have the benefits of clean drinking water, safe sanitation and effective and efficient hot water systems,” says Bronwyn.
