The world’s biggest sustainable Expo
While themes of sustainability run through many of the participating countries’ pavilions (there are 231 countries present at the Expo), it is the sustainable solutions going on behind the scenes that are of most interest.
Having the biggest sustainable impact during the Expo is Geberit, who has been busy not only in preparation for the Expo but also the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The host country built five new soccer stadiums, using Geberit products in all of them.
Right in the heart of the Expo site, which is located to the south of the city’s downtown, right next to the Huangpu River, with an area of 5.28 square kilometres, large quantities of Geberit products and systems were installed in the main buildings and facilities of the Expo. These include:
• The Expo Village, block B (hotels and apartments for receiving
exhibitors): 1,600 bathrooms with a complete set of concealed
cisterns, connected with Geberit HDPE drainage pipes;
• The Theme Pavilion, 65,000 square metre roof area, with Geberit
Pluvia siphonic roof drainage systems;
• The Performance Centre, 30,000 square metre roof area, with
Geberit Pluvia siphonic roof drainage systems.
As the sponsors of the German pavilion, Geberit is heavily involved in ensuring all systems are workable and running smoothly, however not content with just one pavilion, Geberit took on the major pavilions including the Expo Village, Theme Pavilion and Performance Centre as well as several other countries’ pavilions.
Geberit has delivered on all its promises and once again reinforces its reputation as one of the world’s leading players in sustainable solutions.
Waiting in the wings when Geberit leaves and the Expo site is dismantled is Professor Siqing Xia of Tongji University.
Professor Xia has been tasked with implementing his micro bioreactor wastewater system, to keep the area sustainable and green. For more information on the system click on the links below.
The vast vision of the Expo site requires precision, reliable product and options that reflect the future of the industry. To this end Geberit is delivering while the Professor is waiting to turn his system on, to ensure the future of Chinese society remains a sustainable one.
