Smart Irrigation Month
November declared Australians are the biggest water users per capita on the planet – a confronting statistic given we live on the driest populated continent on earth.
According to Australian Bureau of Statistics*, as much as 40 per cent of domestic water use is outdoors, and 50 per cent of this water is wasted. With this in mind, Reece Irrigation is on a mission to help Australians turn over a new leaf, declaring this November the inaugural ‘Smart Irrigation Month’.
Smart Irrigation Month is all about creating awareness about water wastage outdoors, and encouraging Australians to practice efficient water use by making small adjustments when watering gardens or lawns.
Eric Barsky, Reece Irrigation Business Development Manager, hopes to educate communities on how to be smart when watering, especially over the drier months.
“While most people understand how to save water inside, we still have a long way to go in educating people on saving water outside,” said Eric.
With Australia about to head into one of its driest summers since 2010, Reece have come up with a few simple tricks to avoid overwatering, save money and
protect our national water supply.
Technology is also improving to help residents save water without having to think twice. Smart Irrigation systems minimise overwatering by adjusting to
account for rain and cooler days, and they can save time and effort by taking the hassle out of using a leaky hose.
With spring the perfect time to get smart about water saving, Smart Irrigation Month is a positive step to tackling Australia’s water crisis.
Reece’s tips for saving water outside
– Choose the right plants for the dry Australian climate
– Group plants with similar moisture needs in the same area. Making it easier to ensure they get the water they need without over watering
– Water in the morning or evening to avoid water evaporation
– Work with an irrigation professional to maximise your cost savings and the beauty of your garden
– Maintain and upgrade automated irrigation systems to ensure they are working smartly
