Re-designing Roof Performance
In the Spring edition of Plumbing Connection you will read about an exciting research project being undertaken by the AHSCA in conjunction with the University of the Sunshine Coast.
It’s well acknowledged that many of our Standards are not keeping up with technology and our changing environment, particularly our weather patterns. It’s fair to expect larger rain events (storms) and more often.
That puts further pressure on the design of roofs, particularly for commercial buildings. We need to understand more about flow rates for box gutters and downpipes and that is exactly what this research project is about.
This lengthy project is in the early build stage and I was fortunate to be in the area of the University and called in to meet the PhD Scholarship student who is heading the program. Luke Verstraten will be working under the guidance of Drs Terry Lucke and Helen Fairweather.
Luke will have a lot of resources at his disposal and the project is expected to draw wide interest locally and ultimately from around the world.
