Peugeot confirms price, specifications for E-Expert electric van
Peugeot has added another fully-electric van to its local commercial vehicle lineup, with the E-Expert midsize van now on sale in Australia alongside the smaller E-Partner that launched earlier in 2024.
Only a single model is available, priced at $79,990 as a white van (all other colours add a $690 premium paint surcharge). That puts it right in line with another European all-electric midsize, Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz Cargo, which arrives before Christmas with an identical price tag.
But the E-Expert will have one key advantage over its German rival: size. The Peugeot E-Expert will be offered in Australia exclusively as a long-wheelbase van, with a cargo bay measuring 2,780mm long from its forward bulkhead to the tailgate, 1,628mm wide and 1,397mm tall. All up, the E-Expert provides a cargo volume of 6.1m³ – about line-ball with a Toyota Hiace LWB standard roof. Dual sliding doors are standard, as are 50-50 split rear barn doors and a steel bulkhead between the cabin and load area.
With a maximum payload of 1,001kg the E-Expert just scrapes into the ‘tonner’ club, though its maximum tow rating of 1,000kg may be limiting to tradies wanting to hitch a trailer. With 100kW and 260Nm from its single electric motor, the E-Expert’s 75kWh lithium-ion battery supplies enough energy to drive for 330km on a combined urban/highway cycle.
Charging from zero to full takes 7.5 hours on a three-phase 11kW wall box, while a 100kW DC fast charger can bring the battery to 80% in 45 minutes. For businesses with access to cheap – or free energy, if they have a solar installation – the E-Expert could be a viable way to trimming down vehicle expenses in a big way, especially as servicing intervals are set for 25,000km or 12 months. Following Peugeot’s capped price servicing scheme sees a maintenance tally of $1,846 for five years or 125,000km of ownership, though purchasing a pre-paid servicing package brings that down to $1,350 for the same time period – or $750 for three years.
Inside, a 10” infotainment touchscreen displays vehicle info and provides an interface for Android Auto and Apple Carplay smartphone mirroring, while dual-zone climate control works with the cabin bulkhead to improve passenger comfort. A high-mounted rearview camera covers a 180° arc to the rear of the E-Expert, while front and rear parking sensors are standard. A 12.4m turning circle also gives the 5.3m-long E-Expert a good degree of manoeuvrability in tight confines and loading docks. Meanwhile, its charging port is mounted on the passenger-side front corner, keeping it well clear of the rear doors so loading and unloading can be performed while the van is charging.
The E-Expert is covered by a five-year/200,000km vehicle warranty, with an eight-year/160,000km warranty for its lithium-ion battery pack.
