ARC to launch retail program promoting licensed air conditioning installation

The Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC), supported by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), will launch a Retail Engagement Program in November 2025 to promote licensed and environmentally responsible air conditioning installation.

The program will equip participating retailers with educational materials, including in-store flyers, counter cards and video assets, as well as digital tools such as website badges and social media tiles. Retailers will also be listed on the Look for the Tick website to increase visibility and consumer trust.

ARC chief executive Glenn Evans says the initiative integrates consumer education directly into retail settings, where most purchasing decisions are made.

“By embedding the Look for the Tick campaign message into the retail experience, ARC aims to connect consumers with licensed professionals and reinforce the importance of legal and compliant split system installations and uninstallations,” he says.

“Only qualified ARCtick technicians are legally authorised to install, service or decommission systems containing fluorocarbon refrigerants. Engaging licensed technicians ensures legal compliance, protects consumers from faulty installations and supports Australia’s environmental objectives.”

The program builds on the existing Look for the Tick campaign by partnering with retailers to promote safe, compliant installation practices.

According to Cold Hard Facts 4, more than 1.14 million single split systems were sold in 2022, with around 40% through large retailers, underscoring the sector’s key role in influencing installation standards nationwide.
