Applications open for 2026-27 bulk HFC import quota

The Australian Government has opened applications for the 2026-27 bulk hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) import quota. This is part of Australia’s ongoing work to protect the environment and meet commitments under the Montreal Protocol.

To maintain market stability, the allocation process will follow the same approach as previous years. 95% of the quota will be allocated to existing importers under the grandfathered quote arrangements (regs 46 and 50). The remaining 5% will be available as non-grandfathered quota, equally distributed among eligible new or occasional importers (regs 46 and 51).

Applications for quota will close 11:59pm on 7 August 2025. The department is also considering a consultative review for the 2028-29 allocation and will seek stakeholder feedback on the future of non-grandfathered quota distribution.
