A life changing opportunity awaits
Using his Bachelor of Education and trades skills, Richard is working with the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) in Windhoek. Since beginning his volunteer assignment in September 2011, he has been working with local vocational instructors using a competency based training model.
“I train the trainers in how to teach technical and practical skills in general construction and plumbing using a practical teaching method,” Richard says.
Although having only been at the organisation for six months, Richard said that his overseas volunteering position has been of benefit to both the local community and himself personally.
“I have been able to present the trainers with some good training principles, which will hopefully assist in their career development. In addition, I have tried to provide them with a platform to feel great about what they do and highlight the importance of good trainers in society.
“In Namibia the need is so great, but the appreciation so honestly expressed. This work in Namibia has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my life.”
