MPA of NSW issue fierce condemnation of Federal Government’s budget

The Master Plumbers Association (MPA) of NSW openly condemn the Federal Government’s decision to slash the $20,000 instant asset write-off to $1,000 for small businesses.

The MPA of NSW claims that this “shocking” decision proves that small businesses and tradies are not only ignored but also dismissed, in a time where the country is grappling with a severe skills shortage.

The budgets states that small businesses with an aggregated turnover of less than $10 million were promised the substantial benefits of a $20,000 instant asset write-off by 30 June 2025. As a result, from 1 July 2025 the instant asset write-off will only be $1,000.

“This terrible decision in an already fragile economic landscape reveals a disgraceful disregard for the backbone of our economy,” MPA of NSW chief executive Nathaniel Smith says.

“It is utterly unacceptable. This movie directly jeopardises a small business’s ability to invest in the essential tools and equipment that our tradies desperately need and depend upon.”

The MPA emphasise that the asset write-off is a “lifeline for small businesses” and that without backing these businesses and the industry, they’re at risk of stagnation.

“We call on the government to urgently reinstate the $20,000 instant asset write-off and acknowledge its crucial role in supporting small businesses,” Nathaniel says.
