Recent reports have indicated a shortage of qualified refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) technicians across Australia. Latest data from the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) has revealed that the RAC sectors employ over 43,000 proficient technicians and more than 8,700 trainees to make it one of the largest and highest paid in the trade sector with median weekly earnings of approximately $2,019.

There are over 62 million units of vapour compression-driven equipment in Australia which is a 15% increase since 2016. RAC systems contribute to 24% of Australia’s electricity consumption, highlighting their role in households, businesses and transport sectors.

There has also been a 10% reduction in climate emissions from RAC equipment since 2016.

The ARC is helping the RAC industry expand training opportunities and provide resources to assist businesses in attracting and retaining skilled technicians. This will help to advocate policies that promote workforce development and support industry growth.
