First Industrial Project Certified Under Green Star Buildings
The Green Building Council of Australia is excited to announce that Eumemmerring Business Park has made history as the first industrial project to be certified under the Green Star Buildings tool.
Located in Victoria, this groundbreaking project by Goodman Group (ASX: GMG) achieved a 5 Star Green Star Buildings certification representing Australian excellence and setting a new standard for industrial sustainability.
GBCA CEO, Davina Rooney said “Eumemmerring Business Park is a shining example of what’s possible when industry leaders like Goodman Group prioritise sustainability.
“As the first industrial project to be certified under Green Star Buildings, it’s not just meeting expectations, it’s redefining them.”
The project transformed the site with a focus on refurbishment and preservation, retaining two existing buildings and protecting 10 eucalyptus trees believed to be over 100 years old.
The all-electric facility has delivered more than 15% reduction in upfront carbon and 30% reduction in whole of life carbon, which was aided by the extensive use of solar across the precinct and access to 14 EV chargers, with infrastructure to accommodate 38 chargers in the future.
The project team also ensured there was a focus on the health and wellbeing of staff and customers across the site with improved natural light, increased fresh airflow, acoustic comfort considerations, and outdoor spaces to enjoy.
“Green Star Buildings is about creating healthy, resilient, future ready assets that lead the way in sustainability,” Ms Rooney said.
“Eumemmerring Business Park is proof that industrial developments can be both innovative and environmentally responsible.”
Goodman Group has since sold Eumemmerring Business Park, but their legacy of sustainable development continues to inspire.
“We’re immensely proud to have developed the first industrial precinct to achieve Green Star Buildings certification.” said Emma McMahon, General Manager, Sustainability from Goodman Group.
“The Green Star Buildings tool provided a clear and effective framework for us to deliver a facility that not only meets, but exceeds, Australian sustainability standards.”
Green Star Buildings is designed to meet the challenges of the next decade, aligning with the Climate Positive Pathway and IPCC recommendations. It ensures that buildings are fossil fuel free, powered by renewables, highly efficient, built with lower carbon materials and offset with nature – setting a new benchmark for sustainability.
