50 Shades of Grey Water Plumbing
Many parts of the globe face chronic water shortages due to population growth and climate change reasons. Further to that, the enormous cost to produce and distribute potable water in some regions has been erroneous. Then there is the question of legislation, how do we legislate and what needs to be taken into account? Therefore, if grey water can stay onsite and be re-used for non-potable purposes, it greatly assists in taking some strain off the plumbing system needs.
There needs to be some global discussion about what grey water is, the treatments, technology and innovation involved. There should also be some consensus about how grey is spelled. In Australia it is grey, in the United States it is gray. So there’s a discussion in itself. But semantics aside, there’s a lot of great work going on that people in the industry just don’t know about.
Nubian, CSIRO and IAPMO are three organisations leading the way in technology, manufacture and research. In fact the recent Third International Emerging Technology Symposium presented several research papers into this matter.
